macOS will warn you. Here is why, and what to do.
This build is not signed with an Apple Developer certificate — we have not enrolled yet. macOS treats every app without one the same way: it blocks the first launch and warns that it cannot check the app for malicious software.
On macOS 15 it reads, word for word: “Apple could not verify ‘HiringOS Search’ is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy.”
That looks exactly like the warning real malware would produce. We are telling you in advance so you can tell the difference — a warning you were expecting, from a file you got from a link we sent you.
If you ever see it for something you did not deliberately download from us, stop and ask us.
Installing
- Open the downloaded .dmg and drag the app to Applications.
- Open it once from Applications. macOS refuses, with the warning above. Click Done, not “Move to Trash” — the second one deletes what you just downloaded.
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll to the Security section. There is a line saying the app was blocked, with an Open Anyway button.
- Click it and confirm with your password or Touch ID. Later launches open normally.
- Drag the app to Applications before doing any of this, not after. Opened straight from the disk image or the Downloads folder, macOS runs it from a temporary read-only copy, and anything it saves — your searches, your LinkedIn session — goes away with that copy.
The exact wording moves between macOS releases, so trust the shape rather than the words: blocked on first launch, allowed from Privacy & Security. On older versions the shortcut was to right-click the app and choose Open; recent versions removed that for apps like this one, which is why the route above goes through System Settings.
Updating
The app cannot update itself yet — that also needs the Apple certificate. It tells you when a newer build exists and links back here; installing it means downloading again and, the first time you run it, the same Open Anyway step. Your roles, candidates and LinkedIn session are not affected: they live in your account and in this machine's data folder, not inside the app.
